RI Needs Rp. 275 T to Improve Human Waste Management

The government needs around Rp 275 trillion (US$20.1 billion) in total investment over the next five years to improve the country’s human waste management, as only 61 percent of the country’s population were using improved sanitation last year, a high-rank official says.

The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry’s Cipta Karya directorate general, which oversees the construction of clean water and waste facilities, said that the government aimed at achieving a target of 100 percent access to clean water and sanitation as well as zero slums by 2019, as stated in the National Mid-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
